OSHA Student Patrick O’Shaughnessy was selected by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals to participate on a panel to revamp the board’s Safety Trained Safety Professional in Construction exam. O’Shaughnessy has completed 3 of the OSHA Education Center’s certificate programs, and is working towards earning more safety-related designations.

Due to BCSP’s accreditation requirements as an association that grants professional credentials, they need to perform annual test reviews to update questions and sources for any of the designations they offer. Patrick, along with 14 other safety professionals from across the country, had the honor of participating on the review panel which met October 2-4, 2017 in Indianapolis.

Patrick met professionals from all over, from Florida to California, working in a variety of industries from construction to NASA. “I was amazed at how hard the work was,” said Patrick. “Writing test questions is a science. I didn’t realize all the technical aspects that go into the process until you start writing them.”

“I hope I get to go back again to participate because it really is a great experience,” says Patrick, “but in order to do that I will need to earn a few more professional designations with the board. Next-up for me is the Occupational Health & Safety Technologist designation.”
